The Health Benefits Of Raw Garlic

Garlic has been praised for thousands of years as a "superfood" and rightly so in my opinion. Scientific research has shown that Garlic can benefit a number of health conditions including heart disease, impotence, infections, liver health and possibly even for cancer.

Don't let the pungent taste and smell of this very special food put you off, as garlic is one of the most potent healing herbs in the natural kingdom.

Raw Garlic has potent anti-biotic properties, which makes it effective as an anti-candida/fungal/bacteria/parasites remedy. One of the main phyto-nutrients in garlic is a sulfur compound known as allicin, which is responsible for much of its anti-microbial effect. Garlic also contains other powerful sulfur compounds such as sulfoxides and dithiins which have many health promoting benefits.

What is interesting about garlic whilst it kills off the bad bacteria, it is also a rich source of inulin which is a prebiotic fiber that feeds the good bacteria. Garlic and onions are considered top prebiotic foods for supporting the gut flora.

Another benefit to Garlic is its rich selenium content, which is a very important mineral that is often deficient in many individuals. Garlic is one of the richest plant sources of this unique form of selenium. Garlic is also a good source of many other minerals such as manganese, calcium, copper, germanium.

Traditionally garlic is recommended for a variety of health problems which include liver diseases. The rich sulfur and selenium content of garlic makes it an amazing food to support the livers natural detoxification process including the removal of toxic heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum.

The benefits don't stop there though and scientific research has documented garlic's role in cardiovascular disease prevention. Garlic offers a variety of cardiovascular protective benefits such as its ability to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides, has anti-inflammatory properties and prevents oxidative stress/damage. Garlic doesn't only help to improve blood flow but it also prevents blood clots from forming. These impressive combination of benefits make garlic an excellent food to support cardiovascular health.

An important tip during preparation that will increase the medicinal power of Garlic is to crush or chop and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Raw salsa can be a great way to mask the strong taste and smell of garlic and if made right can be a very healing dish that you can include other potent healing foods such as onions and cilantro.

My Favorite Guided Meditation Video

I thought i would do a blog post on one of my favorite guided meditation videos. I have been meditating for a number of years now in order to support my autonomic nervous system balance and it has been one of the most influential factors for improving my health.

I have tried lots of guided meditations, so far this one from Lilian Eden is my favorite and it is very effective at calming the nervous system in my opinion.

Many individuals have imbalances in there autonomic nervous system, the most common being an a sympathetic dominant state i.e when the "fight or flight" system is too active. A sympathetic dominant state sets the stage for all diseases and eventually literally causes the body to burn out or become adrenal fatigued.

Meditation is one of the most effective tools for supporting healthy autonomic nervous system balance and reducing stress levels. Deep breathing exercises are another excellent method for shutting off the sympathetic branch of the nervous system.

These imbalances of the autonomic nervous system is often why many individuals don't get better or heal very slowly. Until the autonomic nervous system is balanced, it will always be an uphill task to regenerate and heal the body.
